Hey hey!
I'm Chaya.
Voracious eater, reader, and incessant food-craver.
Food is my love language, and I think about it a lot more than is *probably* necessary.
Due to my unfortunate inability to keep all these thoughts to myself, I started Silan&Sesame so I can share them with the world! (and to give my friends and family a chance to recuperate 😂.)
As a recovering perfectionist who reads food chemistry books for fun, I test and retest every recipe on this site until its deemed *chefs kiss* by me and my taste testers.
Who you don’t know. So it’s kind of like a blind trust fall thing. But much more delicious.
For me, food goes far beyond nutrition and satiation; it has the power to comfort, connect, and bring joy. It's what links our generations, marks our milestones, and bridges the gap between our cultures.
Here, you’ll find the recipes like the best make-ahead lunches for work, amazing ways to repurpose your leftovers, and occasionally just what I’m craving at the current moment.
My goal here is to bring you recipes that are as approachable as they are delightful, and always 100% craveable.
Whether you’re a takeout tycoon or bona fide foodie, you’ll find something incredible to whip up here.
Some more fun facts about me:
-
I’ll choose an iced latte over a hot one, even in the dead of winter.
-
I’m a night owl who believes that there will be worms out later in the day. (who said they all like to get up early?!)
-
Despite a strange affinity for naming random objects, I refuse to name food. (Sourdough starter excepted. Her name is Francesca.)
Smacznego!

What's in a Name?
You might be wondering why I named my blog after date honey and a seed, and the truth is that Silan&Sesame is named after one of the best food combos of all time: date honey and tahini.
NGL, I teased my friend quite a lot about this in school before trying it for myself. And now I *literally* eat my words. And drizzle them over everything.
Sweet meets savory with a mouthfeel that rivals no other. Truly, a match made in heaven. (don’t believe me? Try it over frozen yogurt!)
